A
Family Tradition of Skill and Experience
The history of our business dates back to 1860 when William John
Sanders established a jewellery store in the English city of Birmingham.
His son William Jnr joined the firm in 1885 and was followed into
the business by his son Lawrence in 1902.
It was Lawrence who emigrated to Australia, establishing the current
business in Park Street, Sydney in 1911. In turn his son Leonard
started working with his father in 1931 and the business was renamed
L Sanders & Son. Other than a break for service in the RAAF
in the Second World War, he ran the company until his death in 1984.
Mark Lawrence Sanders, Leonard’s son, joined the company in
1967 and together with his wife Roswyn heads up what is now one
of Australia’s oldest family owned and operated jewellery
companies.
The company moved into their current showroom on the fourth floor
of The Dymocks Building in George Street, Sydney in 1981.
In 2004, as we approach 100 years in business we have reverted to
using the name Lawrence Sanders, in honour of our founder.
